Kadyrov Complains About "Untraditional" Weddings in Chechnya

| News, Society, North Caucasus

During a meeting on August 16, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, discussed the topic of wedding celebrations with representatives from the federal republic's authorities and law enforcement agencies.

"In recent years, the situation around these events has changed significantly. Absurd rules, which are fundamentally contrary to religion and national customs, are being introduced in society. People are becoming hostages of innovations, which have led to a significant increase in the cost of organizing weddings," Kadyrov said.

According to him, in Chechnya, it was possible to eradicate such a phenomenon as bride theft and several other abnormal phenomena that do not comply with Sharia norms. Kadyrov said that any innovations in Chechen society are categorically unacceptable. He instructed representatives of the religious people to develop a set of measures to help resolve this problem.

Kadyrov emphasized, "It is necessary to promote the formation of families in every possible way. For our part, we will provide the necessary assistance to those in need in organizing celebrations since the family is the basis of society and the state."
