Lelo MP Announces Consultations on Gharibashvili's Impeachment

| News, Politics, Georgia

At the press conference in the Georgian parliament on September 11, Lelo MP Salome Samadashvili stated that when Georgia is waiting for the candidate status from the European Union, the country can't have the most corrupt Prime Minister in its history, and for the society and the opposition not to respond to it.

According to Lelo MP, consultations with political groups on the issue of Gharibashvili's impeachment are starting. She expressed hope that the opposition will be able to agree with each other and begin the impeachment process, which requires the signature of 50 deputies.

"Schools start on September 15. The families of our fellow citizens are burdened with the costs associated with the start of the new school year for their children. Here, in this poor country, the head of the government, Irakli Gharibashvili, sends his son to study in the USA, which will cost the Prime Minister's family about a million laris [EUR 357,105]. But even this is not enough for the Prime Minister. He believes that while the president was denied official visits to meet with Presidents Macron and Steinmeier, he himself had the right to use a government plane to take his son to school. I want to explain to the public that no matter how many lies Irakli Gharibashvili and his StratCom told you, the fact is simple - Gharibashvili spent hundreds of thousands of GEL to send his son to the most expensive American school. Stopping a board in a European country for a week is associated with colossal amounts of money. If this is not corruption, crime, and abuse of office, then we should stop talking about a state at all," Samadashvili said.

On the same day, Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said that talking about the impeachment of the Prime Minister is speculation and nonsense - Irakli Gharibashvili did not spend a single tetri [fractional currency] from the budget.

"First of all, they should ask from which funds the corresponding expenditure was made. Not a single tetri has been spent from the state budget. Therefore, everything is empty speculation. I don't know, they are probably again trying to cover their teammate, Salome Zourabichvili, they have a common patron. This is a poor attempt to cover up the flagrant violation of the constitution by the President of Georgia. Actually, there is no more reason for all this. Again, this is a very poor attempt," he said.

"Talking about impeachment is speculation and nonsense. These people justified Saakashvili's spending of budget money for his own well-being. Irakli Gharibashvili did not spend a single tetri from the budget. Do you realize how much speculation we are dealing with? This is shameful," Kobakhidze said.
