Mikheil Saakashvili's Lawyer on Magnitsky List

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 13, Shalva Khachapuridze, former President Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyerstated that the work on the Magnitsky List had not been finished yet.

He advised sending the American lawyer and the organization operating overseas the list they had put up. "The Magnitsky List will have a chilling impact," the attorney claimed. "Mikheil Saakashvili saw the list. Now it will be sent to the American lawyer in America and the group that works abroad. This list is being clarified, and it is difficult to name the exact number because it decreases and increases in terms of the sufficiency of the evidence, etc. The purpose of this list is to have a chilling effect, and it will have it," Khachapuridze added.

According to Girchi MP Iago Khvichia, Mikheil Saakashvili will not be on the Magnitsky List. "The [United] National Movement is squandering time," Khvichia informed.

"I do not believe that there will be any Magnitsky List. No such a list will be made, especially by politicians and even more so by the National Movement. Mikheil Saakashvili also urges them to let non-governmental organizations do it. However, NGOs do not seem to be very enthusiastic," he stated. "It is in the interests of Georgian Dream to talk about such non-serious topics - when the country is full of serious issues, which everyone avoids talking about, Georgian Dream likes to talk about Mikheil Saakashvili's stomach problems or about the Magnitsky List being compiled by the National Movement - this is the dream of Georgian Dream, and our colleagues are helping him in this knowingly or unknowingly," Iago Khvichia added.

Earlier, Shalva Khachapuridze said that a Georgian version of the Magnitsky List is ready and will include about twenty people, including Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze.
