NATO's Special Representative Meets Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku
On January 19, a meeting was held between Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, and Javier Colomina, the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General for the Caucasus and Central Asia, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.
Current issues of the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and NATO, as well as regional and international issues and the current situation around the Lachin road, were discussed at the meeting.
"Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the continuous political dialogue between Azerbaijan and NATO contributes to cooperation in various fields. As a country contributing to international peace and security, Azerbaijan's participation in NATO-led peacekeeping operations embodies the importance we attach to cooperation in this field. Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the steps taken by Azerbaijan to advance the peace agenda, and the military-political provocations of Armenia that undermine the peace process, and the continuation of the mine threat," he reported.
"Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking about the provocations that caused the protests of the representatives of the Azerbaijani civil society around the Lachin road, said that the unfounded claims about the blockade of the Armenian residents in the territories of Azerbaijan, the situation reaching the level of a humanitarian crisis, do not reflect the truth, and these steps are only justified by the Tripartite Declaration of November 10, 2020," the information added.
"Despite the non-constructive steps of the Armenian side, it was stated that Azerbaijan is ready to hold the next negotiations meeting in a short time and is determined to advance the peace agenda," it emphasized.
Special Representative Colomina said that mutual visits contribute to the development of cooperation. Noting with satisfaction Azerbaijan's participation in peacekeeping operations within the framework of NATO, the special representative emphasized that Azerbaijani peacekeepers played an important role in the evacuation of Kabul International Airport. The two sides praised their cooperation on energy security and education. They noted the current tensions in the region as a cause for concern. The interlocutors stressed the importance of continuing the normalization process of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia to establish peace and security.
