Nika Melia Receives Criticism from His Former Party; Georgian Dream Slams Levan Khabeishvili

| News, Politics, Georgia

Recently, 14 out of 22 members left the United National Movement (UNM) faction of the Zugdidi Municipality Council. Levan Khabeishvili, the head of the United National Movement, blamed the situation on the interim chairperson of the City Council.

Responding to the decision on December 5, UNM MP Anna Tsitlidze said, "I am sorry that for these people, Nika Melia turned out to be a bigger leader for them than Mikheil Saakashvili - if they are sincere, they should leave the mandates and high positions they hold in the City Council."

"I want to appeal to them - if you are completely sincere since you left the National Movement, you should also leave the mandates received thanks to National Movement in the city councils and the positions of deputy chairmen of the council, commissions, and the high salaries that they have only because that they were members of the National Movement and majority candidates nominated by the "National Movement," Tsitlidze added.

While talking about the current processes in the National Movement, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of Georgian Dream, said that Kezerashvili is one of the main figures; instead of financing the strengthening of the party, he is deliberately financing the dissolution of the party, in this regard, he is simply carrying out a task.

According to him, there is a plan to artificially lower the rating of the National Movement to increase the rating of other parties that are members of the collective National Movement. "The National Movement is disintegrating, and according to our observation, this is not an accidental process. I think that this is the task that Kezerashvili is performing. There is such a plan to bring down the National Movement to bring another political force forward. Electing such an odious figure as Khabeishvili to the post is connected to this. The rest of the processes related to the party's disintegration is a deliberate process, the purpose of which is to bring down the party UNM to strengthen another wing of UNM which is not called UNM," the official noted.

"This is the block we were talking about. This includes Salome Zourabichvili, Nino Lomjaria, Khazaradze, and Gakharia, the supposed unity looks like this, although the process is doomed to failure. National Movement is National Movement, the collective National Movement is made up of which parties the society knows very well. Therefore, nothing can be changed by these shifts. In the end, nothing can be changed. What is called the collective National Movement, the radical opposition, cannot be changed," Kobakhidze noted.
