Nikol Pashinyan Addresses Peace Process Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
At the government meeting on March 23, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that there would be a peace agreement, and it would be based on written documents that have been reached at a high level so far.
"As for our work, the Armenian government and public should be engaged in daily construction work - build, reform, create prosperity, and strengthen the security system. We should not back down from the path of development, strengthening of Armenia and our democracy, even for a single minute," Pashinyan said. He claimed that Azerbaijan is leading the situation to a new military escalation.
Pashinyan said that the impunity of Azerbaijan's violation of international agreements provokes new provocations. The Prime Minister noted that on March 22, a military serviceman of Armenia was killed by sniper fire from the Azerbaijani side. The Armenian Prime Minister added that as a result of the 44-day war, Armenians were expelled from the village of Talish in Karabakh, houses belonging to Armenians were demolished, and new houses for Azerbaijanis were built in their place. The Prime Minister called this fundamental evidence of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing and genocide.
The Armenian Prime Minister emphasized that the Azerbaijani authorities have shown their integration model. According to him, Baku destroys Armenian inscriptions from ancient Armenian monuments and considers the issue resolved. Pashinyan said these illegal actions contradict paragraph 7 of the tripartite ceasefire declaration signed on November 9, 2020. The clause envisages the return of internally displaced persons and refugees to Karabakh and surrounding regions.
Pashinyan opposed the delimitation of the borders with Azerbaijan based on historical maps presented by Baku. According to him, this demand of Azerbaijan contradicts the written agreements reached in Prague and Sochi: "The declarations of Prague and Sochi stated that the borders of the Soviet republics had become state borders. "Azerbaijan talks about the delimitation based on some historical maps, which is unacceptable due to a very simple principle - it contradicts the written agreements reached at a high level."
