Officials from Chechnya and Dagestan amongst owners of expensive real estate in Dubai
People from the entourage of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, were among the owners of expensive real estate in Dubai, the Important Stories publication discovered this information based on a leak studied by 19 media outlets from different countries.
In particular, Ruslan Baysarov, an entrepreneur from the Russian Forbes list, whom the media calls Kadyrov's "purse," as of January 2020, was listed as the owner of five apartments and a large villa overlooking the sea on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah. The total market value of Baysarov's Dubai real estate exceeds $10 million. When asked by journalists why he needs so many apartments in Dubai and whether he keeps property for Kadyrov or his relatives, the businessman did not answer.
Also, real estate in Dubai at least until January 2020, was owned by Mohammed Sabsabi, the son of the former senator from Chechnya Ziyad Sabsabi, who now works as the plenipotentiary representative of the republic under the President of Russia. The journalists found an apartment and a villa on the island of Palm Jumeirah with a total cost of about four million dollars from the son of an official close to Kadyrov.
Another person from the so-called Dubai list is the assistant to the head of Chechnya, Akhmad Yasaev, who, as journalists point out, went from a commander of the regiment of the patrol service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Chechnya to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and secretary of the republican Council of Economic and Public Security. Yasaev was listed as the owner of an apartment in Dubai worth $800,000.
Important Stories also mentioned a member of the Federation Council of Russia from Chechnya, Suleyman Geremeev. Since 2019, he has been using a mobile number listed as the owner's number for a Dubai apartment with a market value of over $360,000.
According to journalists, the apartments on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, at least until 2020, were also owned by the Deputy Director of the Territorial Fund for Compulsory Medical Insurance of Chechnya, Adam Alkhanov. The value of his property is estimated at more than 700 thousand dollars. Alkhanov is the son of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Chechnya, Ruslan Alkhanov, and is a fellow villager of Ramzan Kadyrov.
The "Dubai list" also mentions several officials from Dagestan. Saygidpasha Umakhanov, a State Duma deputy from United Russia, according to Important Stories, owned an apartment worth more than 700 thousand dollars. Another former Dagestan MP, Abdulmazhid Magramov, had an apartment worth just over a million dollars in a luxury residence on the seashore. In addition, an apartment worth $88,500 in the 39-storey V3 Tower building was owned by the head of the inter-district administration of the pension fund of Dagestan (at least as of 2021) Makhach Gadzhiyasulov.
