Police Post Attacked in Chechnya
On March 28, the Telegram channel "Shot" published a video with police officers firing back and reported that an attack had been made on the post of the police department in Gudermes, Chechnya. "According to preliminary information, two unknown persons fired at a police post; they were killed by return fire," the report said.
On March 29, Akhmed Dudayev, the Assistant to the Head of Chechnya, and Chechen Minister for National Policy, Foreign Relations, Press, and Information, assured that everything was calm in Gudermes, from the city center. The post on social networks with this statement was published after reports that police officers were attacked in Gudermes. "Gudermes lives his life as usual. Where there is any threat to stability and peace on Chechen soil, law enforcement officers of the region have the skills, experience, and courage to instantly eliminate any threat to a peaceful life. This is all thanks to our commander, combat general Ramzan Kadyrov," Dudayev said in a video from Gudermes.
On the same day, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, gave details of the shootout in Gudermes. "Together with the special services, the security forces of the Chechen Republic worked out operational information about two criminals in the private sector of Gudermes. During the special operation to neutralize them, their location was quickly determined. The militants were blocked and offered to surrender. Trying to escape the encirclement, the criminals threw a grenade toward law enforcement officers. Both were destroyed by return fire. None of the employees of law enforcement agencies or civilians were injured," the head of Chechnya said. "I ask you not to spread rumors about some unfinished remnants of the bandit group, their sudden attack on the security forces, and similar fakes. The criminals have been identified and neutralized," Kadyrov added.
Moreover, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed to submit a report on the progress of the investigation of the criminal case into the encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers committed in Chechnya on the night of March 29. "Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin instructed the head of the Investigative Committee of the TFR for the Chechen Republic V.G. Volkov to report on the initial results of the criminal case investigation," the Press Service of the Investigative Committee reported. "These are residents of the city of Gudermes, born in 1963 and 1989, who are relatives among themselves. During the scene inspection, firearms and ammunition were found and seized," the report clarified.
The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Chechen Republic initiated a criminal case on the fact of encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers (Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The investigation established the attackers' identity on law enforcement officers in Gudermes.
