Putin and Aliyev will sign a declaration on allied cooperation on February 22.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will discuss the implementation of the agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh on February 22, the Kremlin press service reported.

"On February 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who will be in Russia on an official visit. It is planned [that they will] discuss the whole range of issues of further development of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian spheres," the report says.

In addition, the implementation of the agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on Nagorno-Karabakh dated November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021, including measures to restore economic and transport ties in the South Caucasus, will be considered.

"Following the results of the talks, a declaration on allied cooperation will be signed, bringing relations between Russia and Azerbaijan to an allied level," the message added.

At the end of September 2020, hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of a long-term conflict and led to civilian casualties. The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the tripartite agreement reached on the night of November 10. With the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a complete ceasefire and exchange of prisoners and bodies of the dead. Yerevan also handed over the Kalbajar, Lachin, and Agdam regions to Baku. In addition, Russian peacekeepers have been stationed in the region.
