Rally Planned Against Aslan Bzhania in Separatist Abkhazia
Akhra Avidzba, the commander of the Pyatnashka international brigade and the hero of the separatist Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), supported the holding of a public rally on May 30 in Sokhumi.
About seven opposition parties and movements are preparing a rally against the policies of the separatist Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania. The opposition considers unacceptable the current government's focus on the country's settlement by foreign citizens under the guise of selling apartments, selling strategic assets of the republic, increasing electricity tariffs, and legalizing trade with Georgia.
Moreover, Akhra Avidzba considered it lawful to hold an opposition rally on May 30 in Sokhumi. He noted that democracy is in the nature of the inhabitants of Abkhazia. "The people can decide," Avidzba said.
He also answered the question of whether he would attend the rally himself. "We are at the front, I don’t look ahead for more than an hour, so I can’t guess ... I am in Donetsk, I am the commander of a unit that is on the front line, I have responsibility. But there is a rule - where three Abkhazians have gathered, everyone who is not indifferent should be," Avidzba said.
One of the issues that the opposition presents to the authorities is the construction of apart-hotels. Avidzba agrees with the opposition's demand that they should not be built in Abkhazia. "Many cite the example of Sochi in favor of apartments. Well, let's see how in Sochi - colossal health resorts and sanatoriums are turned into apartments. Question: why does the area where you could walk with children become private? Why is it that where it was possible to treat health before, today it's just some kind of apartment for rent? Right now, we should think about those who want to come with big money," Avidzba stated.
Additionally, on the eve of the upcoming protest action in Sokhumi, Inal Ardzinba, the de-facto Minister of Foreign Affairs of the separatist Abkhazia, stated the importance of political stability in the republic.
"Political stability at home has a huge impact on foreign policy. Our international partners closely monitor the situation in the republic and make specific decisions based on the economic, social, and political situation in our country. This is of particular importance," the de-facto minister said.
According to him, political stability is extremely important for the good of the state, and it is also respect for the great trials that the people had to go through. "We, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, are developing a dialogue with all social and political forces, regardless of political views. There is a Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, and many processes and decisions are discussed and adopted in consultations with social and political forces. I want to confirm once again our readiness for dialogue on the fundamental issues of Abkhazia's foreign policy," Ardzinba added.
