Recent Political Developments Regarding Georgia
Culture Minister: "Georgian government will present reforms to European bodies in December"
On November 6, Georgian Culture Minister Tea Tsulukiani said that the Georgian government would present reforms and tangible achievements honorably to European bodies in December.
According to Tsulukiani, the Parliament, more precisely, the majority and only a few opposition members, worked intensely on fulfilling 12 proposals. "In this way, the Georgian Dream administration demonstrated its allegiance to the Georgian people's preference for Europe. Beyond that, I believe it is the responsibility of the European Union to right the wrong of Georgia's standing being somewhat lower than that of Moldova and Ukraine," she added.
The European Council had advised working with the ruling team on the 12 criteria. However, she said the United National Movement and other destructive opposition disregarded it.
Chairpersons of Droa, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and Girchi meet with society representatives
On November 5, members from all areas of society met with the chairs of three opposition political parties, Droa, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and Girchi - More Freedom, to discuss the EU Candidate Status and 12 points.
Opposition party leaders outlined their plans for implementing the European Council's suggested changes. "We are faced with a very obvious and explicit decision: Europe or Russia. Being pro-European entails being pro-Georgian, and vice versa for being pro-Russian. We thus believe that working together will enable us to obtain candidate status for the European Union," the Droa representative stated.
According to Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, there are many questions, many people want to be involved in the process, and many individuals who wish to participate in the process.
"The conference will discuss what is occurring concerning the 12 points - what Georgian Dream is doing and how they view the situation," Zurab Japaridze, the leader of Girchi - More Freedom, stated.
The three parties agreed on a shared vision of how to bring back the European viewpoint to the nation, according to Droa leader Elene Khoshtaria. It's time to take action, not give up, she remarked.
