Russian Peacekeepers Head in Karabakh: "A Mini-Customs Point Will Be Stationed in Lachin"
On December 5, it was revealed that according to Major General Andrey Volkov, the Commander of the Russian peacekeepers in the Nagorno-Karabakh, an agreement was made in Shusha about the establishment of a mini-customs post at the Russian peacekeepers' first post in Lachin. He claimed that specific equipment would be installed to inspect cars and goods. According to Volkov, after that Azerbaijan’s security services would be able to request the information they need.
Moreover, Volkov responded that the matter was under investigation when asked if it was true that 14 Iranian people were allowed to pass via the Lachin corridor by Russian forces. Volkov stated, "I heard about it in the press, and we started to examine all this, who entered, on what transport, with what paperwork. I know they were removed from here two days later."
Separatist Nagorno-Karabakh denies the information
On the same day, the de-facto regime in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh denied reports that Azerbaijan would build a customs post on the road connecting the region with Armenia.
The de-facto authorities in Karabakh stated that this issue was discussed with Volkov. He said that a post would not be established in the corridor, it would not be controlled by Azerbaijanis, and there would be no Azerbaijanis in the places where the peacekeepers are.
