Saakashvili Addresses Informal Governance and Party Responsibility
On November 20, the imprisoned third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, spoke about the "National Movement" party at the court session. During the remote involvement in the session, he mentioned the informal governance, the nomination of his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister, and the departure of the old members from the party's political council.
Saakashvili urged his teammates: "We can find a common language and move forward with quick steps." "It is very important that all mistakes, if made, be eliminated. I take upon myself the political responsibility that all our experienced fighters and many such meritorious people, somehow excluded from the Political Council, return. I take upon myself the coordination of the Political Council, I take the leadership on myself, to reintegrate the party and be open to other connections and other people", Mikheil Saakashvili said while joining the court session from the clinic "Vivamed."
During the remote participation in the session, Mikheil Saakashvili also noted that it is too early to name a candidate for the position of Prime Minister for the upcoming elections, which should be held in 2024. It was in this context that he spoke about himself:
“It has often been heard that I will be nominated as the Prime Minister. It is still too early, my friends. It depends on many factors. We have to look at the situation for a few months, of course, find the optimal candidate, the candidate acceptable to as many people as possible, because we are going to win, not Honorable second place. Most importantly, electoral lists should not be made by someone's deal, but from the bottom up - all party members should vote for the people on the list.”
Saakashvili touched on the questions about informal governance in the party: “When they call for informal governance, no one can rule me informally. If it is about my informal governance, I was in the conditions I found myself in against my will. Because of this, I cannot take responsibility for the party and the struggle that we have ahead of us...”
The former president also addressed the president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, by responding to the interview given by her to the French publication Le Monde last week and said that she made the right points. He argued that the Georgian president could release him with one signature.
According to him, the government of Georgia is preparing the current Minister of Culture, Tea Tsulukiani, for the future presidency. According to Saakashvili, the authorities are preparing the current mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, for the post of Prime Minister because they need to regroup internally, “but the Russians have their eyes on Kaladze, especially with the Gazprom contract and all the corruption that swept Tbilisi City Hall, before that the Ministry of Energy and the whole Georgia.”
In a reaction to Saakashvili’s statements, the chairman of "Georgian Dream," Irakli Kobakhidze, said that it is impossible to comment seriously on Saakashvili's statements about "Georgian Dream" is preparing Tea Tsulukiani for the post of President and Kakha Kaladze for the post of prime minister.
"I don't know, in general, Saakashvili periodically tries to expand his fantasies, to prove that he has various types of medical disorders, etc. It is wrong to make serious comments on his statements. As for who is being considered for what position, when there is an appropriate time, we will provide the appropriate information to the public at the appropriate time. So Saakashvili should not worry," said Kobakhidze.
