Turkey begins demining works on its side of border with Armenia
According to the Turkish newspaper Gazete Kars (published in the city of Kars in the province of the same name), mine clearance work has begun on the border between Turkey and Armenia. "An Israeli company is carrying out mine clearance," the publication says, noting that the relevant work began 20 days ago in the Kars region.
President of the Union of Armenian Foundations (ERVAP) and the Armenian Hospital Surp Pirgich Foundation Bedros Shirinoglu said that the phone conversation between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was met with great pleasure and joy in the Armenian community in Turkey, says the message of the Anadolu agency. In his written statement, Shirinoglu noted that the current process of normalizing relations between the two countries is of great importance in terms of healing the wounds of the past, overcoming prejudices, and creating a new climate on the way to a common future.
Earlier, on July 11, Caucasus Watch reported that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Press Office of the Armenian Prime Minister reported. The Prime Minister congratulated the President on Kurban [Eid al-Adha] Bayram, and the President congratulated the Prime Minister on the upcoming Vardavar-Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
