UK and Georgia Strengthen Ties: Leo Docherty's Strategic Talks in Tbilisi

Meeting with the Prime Minister

On November 21, Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, met Leo Docherty, the Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Europe and North America, the Press Office of the Georgian government reported.

The meeting held within the Government Administration focused on discussing the existing strategic partnership between the two countries, along with cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats. Dignitaries reviewed the prospects of strengthening cooperation in various fields. In this context, the importance of the existing "Wardrop Strategic Dialogue" between Georgia and the United Kingdom, which contributes to the strengthening of cooperation in various fields, was highlighted.

Attention was paid to the positive recommendation of the European Commission regarding granting EU candidate status to Georgia. Irakli Garibashvili shared information with the visiting British government official on the ongoing reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia and expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its contribution to the strengthening of state institutions and the democratic development of the country.

Among the topics discussed were the region's and world's environment and challenges. Attention was focused on the positive role that Georgia can play in achieving security and stability in the South Caucasus. Irakli Garibashvili expressed Georgia's readiness to continue contributing to peace and stability in the region.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister

On the same day, Ilia Darchiashvili, Georgia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the UK Minister of State for Europe.

The sides noted the importance of the UK Minister's visit, which once again confirms the strategic nature of bilateral relations and demonstrates the UK's growing interest in the region.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides paid particular attention to the ongoing processes in the region. Special note was taken of Georgia's efforts to promote peace and stability. The UK Minister for Europe emphasized the successful role of Georgia as a regional mediator.

Leo Docherty highlighted Georgia’s contribution towards increasing regional connectivity, enhancing Europe’s energy independence, and forming a new energy architecture.

Against the backdrop of the current security challenges, the Minister of Foreign Affairs paid particular attention to the need for the partners' consolidated support for Georgia.
