
US Expands Sanctions List Against Kremlin Including North Caucasus Leaders

On February 24, the United States expanded the sanctions list against Moscow. The US Treasury imposed sanctions against 22 individuals and 83 legal entities from Russia and several countries.
The US State Department imposed sanctions against 47 governors, including the heads of eight regions of the South of Russia and the North Caucasus: Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov, the head of the Federal Republic of Ingushetia, Kazbek Kokov, the head of Kabardino-Balkaria, Rashid Temrezov, the head of Karachay–Cherkessia, Batu Khasikov, the head of the Federal Republic of Kalmykia, Murat Kumpilov, the head of the Federal Republic of Adygea, Veniamin Kondratyev, the Governor of Krasnodar Krai and Igor Babushkin, the Governor of Astrakhan Oblast.
Nine ministers are included in the list, including the heads of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Emergencies, the Ministry of Sports, and the Ministry of Energy. The restrictions were also introduced against the TV presenter Olga Skabeeva and the 1219 Russian military. In addition, the Russian legal entity of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant fell under the sanctions.
The US Department of Finance included 11 Russian banks: Moscow Credit Bank, UraSib Bank, MTS Bank, St. Petersburg Bank, Zenit Bank, Lanta Bank, Metalinvestbank, Primorye Bank, SDM-Bank, Ural Bank of Reconstruction and development, Bank "Left Bank." The former son-in-law of the Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, Alexander Udodov, also fell under the restrictions.
