Armenia And India Discuss Defense And Military-Technical Cooperation

On August 17, Suren Papikyan, the Defense Minister of Armenia, received Indian Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who was in Armenia on an official visit. The discussions focused on Armenia-India cooperation in the defense sector, including military-technical cooperation.

During the visit, Singh also held talks with Edward Asryan, the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The sides reviewed bilateral defense cooperation and, under a previously reached agreement, exchanged a document establishing a new format for cooperation between the general staffs of the Armenian and Indian armed forces.

On August 18, Singh was received by Karen Brutyan, the Deputy Minister of Defense, at the administrative complex of the Armenian Defense Ministry. The meeting again focused on defense cooperation, particularly military-technical ties between the two countries.

Later that day, Singh, accompanied by Asryan, visited the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy of the Armenian Ministry of Defense. He was briefed on the academy's activities, educational environment, and training process, and also met with members of its teaching staff.

Civilian Vehicle Strikes Servicemen, Killing One And Injuring Six

On August 19, at around 9:00 PM [local time], a "Gaz-53" vehicle driven by a civilian struck several servicemen on the road leading to Chambarak under circumstances that remain unclear. Serviceman Suren Mambrei Vardanyan died as a result of the incident. The other servicemen involved were transported to a military hospital, where they remain under medical supervision. Their families were informed of the incident in accordance with established procedures, and their lives are not considered to be in danger. An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances and causes of the incident. The Ministry of Defense expressed its condolences and support to Vardanyan's family and relatives.

Then, the ministry noted that three of the servicemen injured in the August 19 accident near Chambarak have been examined and were found not to require medical treatment. The remaining three servicemen are also in stable condition, with their lives not considered to be in danger, and remain under the supervision of hospital doctors.

Suren Papikyan Meets Greek Ambassador And Defense Attachés

On August 21, Suren Papikyan, the Defense Minister of Armenia, received Christos Sofianopoulos, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia, along with Christos Arsenio, the outgoing Defense Attaché, and Vasilios Dzouvaras, the newly appointed Defense Attaché.

During the meeting, Papikyan thanked Arsenio for his contribution to strengthening Armenia-Greece defense cooperation and highlighted the progress achieved in bilateral military ties. He wished the outgoing attaché success in his future activities.

Papikyan also congratulated Dzouvaras on his appointment and wished him success in his new position. At the conclusion of the meeting, Papikyan awarded Arsenio the "For Military Cooperation" Medal in recognition of his contribution to defense relations between Armenia and Greece.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan And Kazakhstan Hold Military Staff Talks in Baku

On August 19, the Ministries of Defense of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan held staff talks in Baku to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral military cooperation. During the meeting at the International Military Cooperation Department of Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry, the sides exchanged views on ongoing cooperation in the military field and reviewed a range of issues of mutual interest. Particular attention was given to prospects for further expanding bilateral defense ties. The participants also reviewed the bilateral military cooperation plan for 2027 and exchanged views on matters related to its implementation.

Georgia

Georgia And US Georgia National Guard Discuss Defense Cooperation

On August 20, Georgian defense officials held meetings with a delegation from the US Georgia National Guard to discuss cooperation between the Georgian Defense Forces and the National Guard.

Major General Richard Wilson met with Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Commander of the Defense Forces of Georgia. Matiashvili thanked Wilson, who was visiting Georgia for the second time, for the practical support provided by the US Georgia National Guard to the Georgian Defense Forces and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation.

Paata Patiashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia, also received the head of the US Georgia National Guard. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of strengthening defense cooperation between the two sides.

The discussions focused on the "Partnership between Countries" joint program, as well as the participation of Georgian and US servicemen in multinational military exercises.
