Armenian Defence Minister Visits Czechia

Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan visited the Czech Republic on 20-22 October for talks on military-technical cooperation, defence reforms and military education, while signalling the imminent arrival of Czech-made L-39 Skyfox aircraft in Armenia.

On 20 October, Papikyan visited aircraft manufacturer AERO Vodochody, where he met company management, discussed cooperation and toured the production facilities.

On 21 October, Papikyan attended the opening of the Future Forces Exhibition and Forum in Prague, an international defence and security event, and toured its exhibition pavilions to examine military technologies, weapons and equipment presented by participating companies. His visit provided an opportunity to engage with defence industry representatives and review equipment relevant to Armenia’s military modernisation.

On 22 October, Papikyan held talks with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna following an official welcoming ceremony at the Czech Defence Ministry. The meeting, which included expanded delegations from both countries, covered defence and military-technical cooperation, reforms of the Armenian Armed Forces, military education and other areas of collaboration. Both sides also stressed the importance of cooperation in multilateral frameworks involving the EU and NATO, according to Armenia’s Defence Ministry. Papikyan also met Czech First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček to discuss developing defense and military-technical cooperation. The meeting was attended by Armenia’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Ashot Hovakimyan, and Aram Jivanyan, chairman of the Military-Industrial Committee at Armenia’s Ministry of High-Tech Industry.
