Georgia's defence minister, Juansher Burchuladze, met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on June 16 in Brussels, according to the Georgian Ministry of Defense. The parties discussed regional developments in light of the Ukrainian war, as well as the need to boost NATO-Georgia practical cooperation to bolster Georgia's resilience and defence capabilities in the face of the Russian threat.
Additionally, the parties discussed the Tailored Support Document, which aims to boost important sectors in the defence industry. As part of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP), the two countries also talked about making the Alliance more committed to giving practical help and making the Black Sea more secure.
Taking into consideration the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the minister also met with the Turkish and Bulgarian Ministers of Defense, Hulusi Akar and Dragomir Zakov, respectively, to discuss security in the Black Sea region. Minister Burchuladze addressed changes in the Ministry of Defence with his Turkish counterpart, as well as the execution of the SNGP projects and the two countries' collaboration in the sphere of military education.
Minister Burchuladze also met with his Finnish and Swedish counterparts, Minister Antti Kaikkonen and Minister Peter Hultqvist, to discuss how hostilities in Ukraine and the resulting complications have significantly increased the threat and risk to Georgia and the South Caucasus region. In light of this, Georgia's Minister of Defense emphasised the importance of Western collaboration as essential to the region's peace, stability, and rapid economic development.
