Albanian Deputy Minister Notes SOCAR Partnership Seen As Key To Accelerating Albania’s Gas Infrastructure

On May 16, Ceno Klosi, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania, stated that despite the rapid development of the country’s energy sector, Albania lags behind in gas supply, and cooperation with Azerbaijan will help address this issue.
During his remarks, Klosi emphasized that collaboration with Azerbaijan, particularly with SOCAR, would accelerate the development of Albania’s gas infrastructure and enhance its overall energy potential. He noted, “We strive to expand our cooperation by exchanging the experience and potential that both countries have, as well as the knowledge accumulated in the energy sector.”
Klosi added that with SOCAR’s participation, the initial phase of the gasification project—the preparation of a business plan—is being finalized before moving on to concrete investments. He highlighted the Korça gasification project as the first initiative under this cooperation and confirmed that negotiations are already underway on additional projects, including oil production, upstream, and downstream operations, which are currently at an early stage.
This partnership aligns with Azerbaijan’s energy engagements at the EPC Summit, as noted above, where President Aliyev and Edi Rama discussed the importance of gas supply to Korça during a working luncheon on May 16.
