Another Meeting Held in Yevlakh Between Karabakh Armenians and Azerbaijan; UN Mission Arrives in Karabakh
On 29 September, the Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan announced that another meeting with representatives of Karabakh Armenians was held in Yevlakh.
Humanitarian issues, the reintegration of the Armenian residents of Karabakh and, in this regard, the reintegration plan presented by Azerbaijan were discussed in detail at the meeting.
"Ensuring the free movement of civilians, delivering humanitarian aid and meeting the needs for fuel and food were highly appreciated. The representatives of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh economic region expressed special gratitude for the measures taken by the relevant state institutions of Azerbaijan during the fire that broke out near the town of Khankendi, in particular, for sending the necessary medical supplies, medicines and emergency medical vehicles to the area to extinguish the fire and provide first aid to the injured. they did. It was requested that the relevant state institutions of Azerbaijan take measures in the direction of organising mobile communication services and television and radio broadcasting," the report added.
"Ramin Mammadov, the person responsible for contacts with the Armenian residents of Karabakh, provided information on the procedures and social services related to the reintegration process. He said that the members of the working group created for social, humanitarian, economic and infrastructural issues in the Karabakh region will visit Khankendi on 2 October to solve economic, communal and other such issues on the spot," the information said.
On 29 September, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that Azerbaijan had invited the UN mission to visit Karabakh soon. "The visit will allow to get acquainted with the current humanitarian activities carried out by Azerbaijan in the region," the ministry said in a statement. "In addition, the members of the delegation will be shown the restoration of certain infrastructure, the disarmament of illegal Armenian armed forces and the confiscation of ammunition, as well as the threat posed by mines," it said.
A United Nations mission arrived in the Karabakh region on 1 October. The aim of the mission is to assess the situation on the ground and identify the humanitarian needs of the local population. The mission includes representatives of various UN agencies.
Members of the mission travelled through Aghdam and headed for Asgaran-Khankendi [Stepanakert in Armenian].
Meanwhile, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs criticised the government of Azerbaijan for not having approved the UN mission earlier. It had been granted only after almost all of the estimated 120,000 Armenian inhabitants had left the region for Armenia for fear of retaliation by Azerbaijan. France reiterated its "commitment to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia".
