Armenia and Cyprus Reinforce Diplomatic Ties, Pledge Support for Nagorno-Karabakh Refugees
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, as reported by the MFA. The two ministers held a joint press conference following a tête-à-tête meeting.
Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his gratitude for Cyprus's unwavering support for Armenia on various fronts, including issues related to territorial integrity and assistance to the ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh. He highlighted the decision to open a diplomatic representation in Cyprus soon, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic presence in strengthening relations. Mirzoyan also praised the excellent cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs and the parliaments of both countries. Regarding Armenia-EU relations, he mentioned the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement and discussed exploring new tools and mechanisms with the EU, such as initiating a visa liberalization dialogue.
Mirzoyan also updated his colleagues on the recent progress in negotiations with Azerbaijan, emphasizing Armenia's unwavering stance and dedication to the peace process. He highlighted the mutual recognition of territorial integrity as a critical issue, along with the subsequent delimitation process guided by the principles of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. Mirzoyan noted that both Armenia and Azerbaijan have previously agreed to these principles at the highest levels, reaffirming their commitment in meetings held in Prague, Sochi, Brussels, and other locations.
The Cypriot Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s support for Armenia, particularly highlighting assistance to Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh and humanitarian aid efforts. He mentioned Cyprus’s project to construct greenhouses in Armenia and its readiness to host displaced children from Nagorno-Karabakh.
