Armenia and Iran Pledge to Enhance Bilateral Ties in Tehran Meeting

On July 30, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran during an official visit to Iran, the press office of the Armenian PM reports. President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pashinyan’s visit and emphasized Iran’s commitment to fostering political, economic, and humanitarian relations with Armenia.

Pashinyan reciprocated the warm sentiments, congratulating Pezeshkian on his election and stressing the importance of multilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and understanding. Reaffirming high-level agreements, President Pezeshkian highlighted the historical and cultural bonds between the two nations as a foundation for further bilateral cooperation. He expressed readiness to enrich the cooperation agenda through joint efforts.

Nikol Pashinyan also underscored Armenia’s commitment to deepening relations with Iran, presenting the “Crossroads of Peace” project aimed at unblocking regional communication channels. He also emphasized Iran's involvement in constructing the North-South highway, particularly the Agarak-Kajaran section, and the modernization of the Armenia-Iran border checkpoint.

The leaders discussed strengthening trade and economic ties and implementing joint programs in healthcare, modern technologies, education, science, and culture. Iranian President Pezeshkian noted his positive experiences from a private visit to Armenia, and both leaders highlighted the importance of high-level mutual visits.

Armenian PM Meets Iran's Supreme Leader to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran. Seyyed Ali Khamenei thanked the Armenian PM for visiting Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Iran.

The interlocutors expressed their belief that Armenia and Iran will continue to take steps towards the development of warm and friendly relations for the benefit of the progress of both states and peoples.

During the meeting, Khamenei reiterated Iran’s stance that the concept of the “Zangezur corridor” does not align with Armenia’s interests, as the Iranian ISNA news agency reported. He emphasized the importance of Armenia’s territorial integrity and affirmed that Armenian-Iranian relations would continue to develop based on mutual interests, irrespective of the politics of other countries. Khamenei stressed that other nations should not interfere in the relations between neighboring countries.
