Armenia and Turkey Hold Fifth Round of Normalization Talks
The special representatives from Armenia and Turkey for the normalization of bilateral relations, Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kilic, will hold their fifth meeting on July 30.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs that the special representatives from Armenia and Turkey reconfirmed the agreements reached at their previous meetings. They agreed to assess the technical requirements to enable the functioning of the Akhurik/Akyaka railroad border gate in line with regional developments and to simplify mutual visa procedures for diplomatic and official passport holders. They also reemphasized their commitment to continue the normalization process without any preconditions, aiming for the ultimate goal of full normalization between their respective countries.
Serdar Kilic, the Special Representative of Turkey, was in the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations, and he reflected on his meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Ruben Rubinyan.
“We held our fifth round of meetings in the border region between Turkey and Armenia, on the Armenian side in the morning and on the Turkish side in the afternoon. We discussed, with a constructive understanding, all aspects of the normalization process and the possibilities for further advancement,” Kilic wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Toivo Klaar, the EU’s special representative for the South Caucasus, commented on the Rubinyan-Kilic meeting, stating, “The meeting between Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kilic at the Armenian-Turkish border yesterday was significant. Normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia and reopening communications are crucial for a more stable and prosperous South Caucasus.”
