Armenia Strengthens Law Enforcement with Europol Cooperation Agreement

| News, Politics, Armenia

During its Cabinet session on January 25, the Armenian government approved proposals to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and Europol (European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation), as well as a memorandum of understanding on a safe channel between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and Europol.

The decision to approve the agreements between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and Europol was rationalized based on signing a working agreement on September 28, 2021. This agreement aims to enhance collaboration between Armenian law enforcement agencies and Europol in combating transnational crimes such as illegal drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, cybercrime, asset recovery, money laundering, and human trafficking.

The cooperation agreement will facilitate the deployment of a liaison officer from Armenia's Ministry of Internal Affairs to Europol, enhancing operational collaboration and information exchange between Armenia and Europol.

The memorandum of understanding will establish a legal framework for Europol to create a secure channel for information exchange, including the installation of necessary equipment at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia.
