Armenia to Head Black Sea Economic Group, Focuses on Regional Trade
On June 28, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan participated in the 48th online meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the Armenian Foreign Ministry reports. Kostanyan outlined Armenia’s priorities as it prepares to take over the BSEC Chairmanship-in-Office on July 1, focusing on fostering dialogue and sharing best practices.
Kostanyan expressed gratitude to Albania for its leadership and thanked BSEC Secretary-General Lazăr Comănescu and staff for their work. He emphasized Armenia’s commitment to promoting regional economic cooperation and trade facilitation to ensure peace and stability.
Armenia has experienced significant economic growth, with a 30% increase in the economy, a 91% rise in state budget revenues, and 200,000 new jobs created. The country aims to normalize relations with neighbors, including peace negotiations with Azerbaijan and reopening borders with Türkiye.
“Armenia is also committed to normalizing its relations with Türkiye and reopening land borders. In this vein, we stand ready to undertake all necessary steps to operationalize the agreements reached by Special Representatives with the view of sustaining the current positive momentum and advancing further for the benefit of the two countries and the region as a whole,” he added.
The “Crossroad of Peace” initiative was highlighted, aiming to improve regional infrastructure and connectivity. This project seeks to integrate the Black Sea region into global transportation networks.
In conclusion, Kostanyan reiterated Armenia’s dedication to sustainable development and regional cooperation within the BSEC framework. The BSEC member states expressed their support and wished Armenia success in its upcoming chairmanship.
