Armenia to Publish Final Election Results June 14 as Recounts Continue
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission will publish the final results of the June 7 parliamentary elections on June 14, with recounts still underway at polling stations across the country, CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said.
Hovakimyan said that although only a limited number of recount requests were formally filed, territorial electoral commissions have launched additional recounts at stations where they deemed it necessary. He added that nearly all polling stations in Yerevan are likely to be recounted after a Wings of Unity Party candidate requested a citywide review.
The chairman said three political forces have filed recount requests: the Prosperous Armenia Party, the Strong Armenia alliance, and the Wings of Unity Party.
Preliminary results show three political forces clearing the threshold for parliament. The ruling Civil Contract took 727,827 votes, or 49.825%, enough to keep its majority and form a government. The Strong Armenia alliance won 340,088 votes, or 23.281%, and the Armenia alliance 145,113 votes, or 9.934%.
The Prosperous Armenia Party fell just short of the 4% threshold at 3.996% and had earlier announced plans to seek recounts at several stations. Other political forces have also called for a review of the results.
