Armenian Border Troops Commander Dismissed

Colonel Arman Maralchyan, the Commander of the Border Troops of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia, was dismissed from his post. The decree on this was published on April 12. The proposal for the resignation of the chief Armenian border guard came from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. President Vahagn Khachaturian received it and signed a corresponding decree.
Arman Maralchyan was appointed Commander of the Border Troops of the NSS of Armenia on October 26, 2020, during the 44-day war in Karabakh. Then he replaced Vaghinak Sargsyan in this post.
Commentators in Yerevan link Maralchyan's dismissal with the armed incident last week, which occurred on one of the sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border - near the village of Tegh in the Syunik region of Armenia.
Earlier, the defense ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan reported the cessation of hostilities and stabilization of the situation on the border. So far, four servicemen from the Armenian side were officially reported dead and six wounded, while three from the Azerbaijani side were reported dead.
