Armenian Deputy PM Highlights Strong Ties with China at 75th Anniversary Reception

During a reception at the Chinese Embassy marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan acknowledged China’s early recognition of Armenia’s independence and the warm, friendly ties that have since developed between the two nations. He emphasized that these relations are rooted in historical connections, mutual respect, and trust.

Grigoryan noted China’s significant achievements in state-building and economic development, which contributed to a stable rise in its citizens' living standards. He highlighted that enhancing comprehensive cooperation with China is a key priority for Armenia's foreign policy, reiterating the importance of strengthening friendly relations in various sectors, including trade, tourism, culture, education, and humanitarian efforts.

Armenia’s deputy PM also pointed out the significance of the recently launched direct flight from Urumqi, China, to Yerevan, which enhances connectivity between the two countries. He extended his congratulations to his Chinese counterparts on their national holiday and expressed gratitude to Mr. Chen Ming, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the People’s Republic of China in Armenia, for his role in fostering Armenian-Chinese relations.

Chen Ming, China’s Acting Chargé d’Affaires in Armenia remarked on bilateral ties' healthy and stable development. He highlighted a notable increase in trade, reporting that bilateral trade exceeded $1.4 billion in the first half of the year, reflecting over a 40% rise compared to the previous year. Additionally, he mentioned that approximately 11,500 Chinese tourists visited Armenia, representing a significant increase compared to the previous year. The launch of a direct flight from Urumqi to Yerevan by China Southern Airlines further facilitates travel between the two countries, promoting tourism under a reciprocal visa-free regime.

Chen also pointed out recent collaborations, such as the acquisition of Chinese buses by the Yerevan Municipality and the establishment of stores by renowned Chinese brands like BYD, Haier, and Jetour in Armenia. He reiterated the Chinese government's support for its companies to explore foreign markets and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation, encouraging investments that contribute to Armenia’s economic growth.

Chen concluded by reaffirming the Chinese government's appreciation for Armenia's support of the “One China” principle and expressed readiness to collaborate with Armenia to elevate their traditional friendship and enhance the prosperity of both nations.
