Armenian Economy Minister: "Free Trade with Azerbaijan will Help Armenian Residents Enter Broader Markets"
Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said that air cargo transportation with Turkey will start shortly. According to the Armenian Minister of Economy, who cited several foreign studies, if the Armenian-Turkish border was opened, Armenia would see a 30 percent economic boom in just two to three years. Kerobyan said that, in contrast to the Armenian people, Turkish nationals have never been prohibited from investing in Armenia.
Vahan Kerobyan remarked, "The Armenian people and enterprises are prohibited from doing business in Turkey." He also said that without railroad connectivity, it is difficult to have a thriving industry, alluding to the re-establishment of train connections with Azerbaijan. He said, "This will enable Armenia to have rail contact with Russia, Iran, and Central Asia." According to the Economy Minister, for the railway connection with Azerbaijan to be restored, Armenia must spend roughly $200 million. In Kerobyan's opinion, free trade with Azerbaijan will benefit Armenian residents and enterprises and help them enter broader markets.
