Armenian Economy Minister Resigns

| News, Politics, Armenia

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on February 14, Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan announced his resignation.
Kerobyan explained his decision to step down from his position as Minister of Economy, stating his intention to no longer serve the people of the Republic of Armenia in this capacity. Reflecting on his tenure, Kerobyan noted that he took office on November 20, 2020, shortly after the end of the 44-day war in Karabakh. At that time, there was considerable uncertainty about the length of his term. Despite facing numerous challenges and internal disagreements during his tenure, Kerobyan expressed that he remains committed to maximizing his service to the country. He thanked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for the opportunity to serve his nation.
Interestingly, Vahan Kerobyan's decision to resign has sparked speculation among commentators in Yerevan, who suggest a link to an ongoing anti-corruption investigation. The investigation has placed high-ranking officials from the country's Ministry of Economy at its epicenter, culminating in significant developments at the end of last month. Specifically, on February 2, an anti-corruption court in Yerevan ordered former Deputy Economy Minister Ani Ispiryan placed under house arrest for two months.
