Armenian FM Emphasizes Peace Treaty with Turkey and Azerbaijan
From June 27 to June 29, 2024, Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, engaged in a series of diplomatic meetings and discussions during his visit to Tallinn, Estonia, and Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Minister Mirzoyan participated in a round-table discussion in Tallinn at the International Center for Defense and Security (ICDS). He outlined Armenia's foreign policy priorities in light of evolving geopolitical conditions, emphasizing the country's commitment to stability and lasting peace in the South Caucasus. Discussions included Armenia's efforts to normalize relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan, highlighting the importance of signing a peace treaty based on the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991. The dialogue also focused on deepening Armenia's partnership with the European Union and promoting democratic reforms. Minister Mirzoyan highlighted initiatives such as the "Crossroads of Peace," aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and stability.
In Dubrovnik, Croatia, Minister Mirzoyan held meetings with various counterparts. Discussions with Igli Hasani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, centered on expanding political dialogue and cooperation opportunities between Armenia and Albania across multiple sectors, including participation in multilateral forums.
With Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, discussions focused on political dialogue dynamics, regional security, and Slovenia's role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Minister Mirzoyan briefed on recent developments in Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization efforts and stressed the significance of a peace treaty for regional stability.
Meetings with Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, addressed bilateral political cooperation, EU relations, and regional security issues, particularly in the South Caucasus. Minister Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia's efforts towards normalization with Azerbaijan and the importance of a peace treaty.
Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, discussed the Armenia-EU partnership, resilience-building mechanisms, and international security issues. They emphasized the need for respecting international law and achieving sustainable peace in the South Caucasus through a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
Discussions with Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, focused on regional security challenges, democratic development, and Armenia's commitment to peace initiatives. Minister Mirzoyan reiterated Armenia's political will for a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and efforts towards regional stability.
Meetings with Gordan Grlić Radman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, continued discussions on bilateral agreements and recent regional developments. Minister Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia's efforts in the South Caucasus security context and the importance of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan for regional stability.
With Elmedin Konaković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, discussions covered bilateral agenda items and opportunities for political dialogue and cooperation. Minister Mirzoyan outlined Armenia's democratic development path, economic goals, and involvement in regional connectivity projects like the "Crossroads of Peace."
