The opening of railway communication between Armenia and Iran is among the most critical issues on our agenda. The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, stated this at a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on June 16.

Simonyan presented to the President of Iran the situation created as a result of “the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem against [separatist] Nagorno-Karabakh," humanitarian problems, and the issue of preserving Armenian cultural and historical monuments in the territories that have come under Azerbaijani control, stressing that Azerbaijan is destroying the Armenian heritage at the state level. The meeting noted Iran's consistent efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.

The Chairman of the Armenian Parliament also informed the President of Iran that a working group has already been created in the Armenian Parliament to simplify legislation to implement the joint Armenian-Iranian agenda. The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in turn, said that he had given appropriate instructions to his staff.

Earlier, the Iranian ambassador to Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, said that "Although Armenia is a country adjacent to the East Azerbaijan province, we have not been able to increase our trade turnover with this country by more than half a billion dollars, so we must try to increase this amount to $1 billion." "Our country's national interests must be taken into account concerning neighboring countries, and national interests dictate that we use every opportunity and opportunity to communicate with our neighbors, especially when other countries treat us rudely," he said. "Armenia's attractiveness is not limited to this country. Armenia is a very good bridge between the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Eurasian Union, and the European Union," he flagged.
