On October 16, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of European Union (EU) Member States accredited to Armenia, led by Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, head of the EU delegation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the importance of Armenia-EU multi-sector cooperation and reiterated the Armenian government’s commitment to deepening and expanding these relations. He stressed the need for effective implementation of the agreements reached in October 2023 in Granada with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the commitments made in the Armenia-EU-US high-level statement adopted during the April 2024 meeting in Brussels.

Ambassador Vassilis Maragos provided updates on the progress of the steps outlined in the aforementioned agreements and reiterated the EU’s continued support for promoting democratic and economic reforms in Armenia. Maragos highlighted the significance of strengthening private sector capacities in Armenia and welcomed the initiation of discussions on visa liberalization between the EU and Armenia. He also noted the EU’s decision to provide assistance to Armenia through the European Peace Facility.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing negotiations on the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty. Prime Minister Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to advancing the peace agenda and expressed readiness to sign the agreement based on the agreed-upon articles, while continuing discussions on unresolved issues.

Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring peace and stability in the region, with particular emphasis on the positive role played by the EU observation mission in Armenia. The conversation also touched on the potential for unblocking regional communication channels, with Ambassador Maragos expressing the EU’s support for Armenia’s sovereignty and endorsing the Armenian government’s "Crossroads of Peace" initiative.
