Armenian Security Service: "Local Roads Will Not Be Stopped after Agreement with Azerbaijan"
On August 22, the National Security Service of Armenia (NSS) refuted claims that local and international roadways in Armenia would be stopped if Azerbaijani cars were permitted to pass through Armenian territory on their way to the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan and in the other direction.
According to claims, the free flow of Armenian citizens inside their nation will be hampered by the passage of Azerbaijani automobiles via Armenia.
The NSS issued a statement saying, "This is not true. According to a draft resolution, three checkpoints are planned to be built on the Azerbaijani border to allow motor vehicles to go from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic." "Possible transit routes and procedures being worked out at the moment will not restrict the movement of the Armenian population as well as foreigners and their vehicles along local and/or international roads," the statement reads.
According to the draft plan, one of the border checkpoints is to be set up in the Sotk community of Gegharkunik province, which borders the Kalbajar district of Azerbaijan.
The second checkpoint will be established in the Yeraskh community of Ararat province, which borders the Sadarak community of Nakhchivan (an exclave of Azerbaijan). The third checkpoint will be established in the Karahunj community in Syunik province (approximately 7.5 km south), which borders Eyvazly village in the Azerbaijani Fuzuli district.
