Azerbaijan Accuses France of Interfering in Internal Affairs

On August 31, France's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anne Bouillon, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected to the sending of vehicles to the Lachin border checkpoint under the name of humanitarian cargo accompanied by the leaders of several French cities, including Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, and those persons making provocative statements against Azerbaijan. The note was presented to the French ambassador.

In the ministry's statement, it is noted that these steps of the French side are not only a direct interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan but also an attack against the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity protected by international law. "It was noted that these provocative acts, which are a tool of Armenia's campaign of lies and manipulation, are another example of steps aimed at escalating the situation in the region and encouraging Armenia to continue its revanchist position, which has intensified in recent days," the statement said.

It was noted in the information that France has insisted on putting an end to the steps directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, protected by international law, and that endangered the fragile normalization process promoted by the active efforts of international actors in the region.

Notably, on August 30, a humanitarian aid convoy consisting of 10 trucks gathered in the capital of France, Paris, and several other big cities arrived at the border of Armenia with Azerbaijan. The humanitarian aid convoy was attended by Anne Hidalgo, mayors of several other French cities, as well as representatives of French elected bodies. "We are in Armenia together with the officials of Paris and other communities. 120,000 Armenians, including 30,000 children, who have been living in Karabakh for nine months now, are isolated, hungry, and deprived of everything. We provide emergency aid to people facing a humanitarian disaster," Hidalgo said.
