Azerbaijan Achieves Budget Surplus as Natural Gas Production Increases
On October 15, Azerbaijan reported producing approximately 37.118 billion cubic meters of natural gas during the first nine months of 2024, with over 28.255 billion cubic meters classified as commercial natural gas.
Natural gas production increased by 3.4%, while commercial gas output rose by 5.2% during this period. Additionally, Azerbaijan produced nearly 21.669 million tons of crude oil, including gas condensate, with the share of commodity crude oil exceeding 21.623 million tons. However, oil production and commodity oil volumes experienced declines of 4.1% and 4%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2023.
Between January and September 2024, Azerbaijan's state budget revenues reached 27.74 billion manats ($16.31 billion), while expenditures amounted to 25.17 billion manats ($14.8 billion). These figures reflect a 25.6% increase in revenues and an 8.4% rise in expenses compared to the previous year. The budget surplus during this period stood at 2.56 billion manats ($1.5 billion), or 2.8% of gross domestic product (GDP), a marked improvement from the same period in 2023 when the budget recorded a deficit of 1.14 billion manats ($670 million).
