Azerbaijan and EU Discuss Cooperation in Budapest Meeting

On September 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, met with Oliver Várhelyi, the Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement of the European Union (EU), in Budapest as part of his visit to Hungary.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the existence of a multifaceted cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the EU and mentioned several issues in this regard, including political, economic, trade, transport, and energy security, etc. expressed satisfaction with the level of development of relations in the fields. It was pointed out that the draft of the new comprehensive agreement to be signed between Azerbaijan and the EU can play an important role in the further development of relations.

The information said that the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the EU, which envisages joint activity in the field of energy security, as well as the development of alternative energy resources, in cooperation in this field was emphasized.

"In the field of connections, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, talking about the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in the direction of expanding the potential of the Middle Corridor - Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, noted that the opening of all transport and communications in the region, including the Zangezur Corridor, can be a significant contribution to the process," the official information added.

"Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict stage, the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the signing of a peace treaty, the steps taken by Azerbaijan in the direction of the reintegration of the Armenian population living in the region, as well as the provocations of Armenia that undermine the peace process," the report noted.
