Azerbaijan and Pakistan considering military cooperation
Lt-Gen Heydar Piriyev of Azerbaijan's War College and Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan of Pakistan's Naval Academy met in Baku to discuss military cooperation, according to the Defence Ministry.
During the discussion, the Pakistani delegation learned about Azerbaijan's military education system, according to the report.
The development of Azerbaijani-Pakistani relations was also praised by both parties.
Pakistan was one of the first countries to express political support for Azerbaijan during the 44-day conflict with Armenia in 2020. Pakistan also backs Azerbaijan's efforts to reclaim the country's freed areas.
Three Brothers - 2021 joint international drills were held in Baku in September 2021 by Azerbaijani, Turkish, and Pakistani special forces.
The countries inked an agreement on mutual military cooperation during the fifth meeting of the working group on military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in Islamabad in the winter of 2014.
Approximately a hundred Azerbaijani military units have been taught by Pakistani military professionals during the last decade.
Azerbaijan and Pakistan are discussing the acquisition of a JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter aircraft. President Aliyev and Prime Minister Sharif agreed preparations for joint military drills in October 2016.
Azerbaijan's, Turkey's, and Pakistan's parliaments have also signed the Baku Declaration on Cooperation. On July 27, 2021, the document was signed during a trilateral conference of the speakers of the three nations' parliaments.
