Azerbaijan and Russia Discuss Joint Plan to Develop "North-South" Transit Cargo Route
According to the information of "Azerbaijan Railways" JSC, in the meeting held between Rovshan Rustamov, the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, and Oleg Belozerov, the general director of "Russian Railways" OJSC, the prospects for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of transit cargo transportation, especially the "North-South" route joint action plan was discussed. The parties discussed cooperation issues in transit cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Russia.
At the meeting, a wide range of views was exchanged on the competitiveness of the relevant route and the involvement of additional cargo volumes. In particular, the plan of proposals related to the optimization of transit time between the two countries, the electronification of document circulation, and the synchronization of operations on routes were widely discussed.
Notably, the "North-South" International Transport Corridor connects Northern Europe with Southeast Asia. Forecasts show that if it operates at full capacity, the "North-South" international transport corridor will enable the access of European countries, Russia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus regions to the Persian Gulf and India and the intensification of trade relations with the Black Sea ports of the Caspian countries. This corridor will also carry out rail and road transport between Europe-South Asia-Middle East.
