The meeting between Jeyhun Bayramov and US State Department's Chief Adviser on Caucasus Negotiations

On April 17, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Louis Bono, the US State Department's Chief Adviser on Caucasus Negotiations, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the prospects of the negotiation process on the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement were discussed, as well as other components of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process. "Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the fact that Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations within the framework of the tripartite statement, has not completely withdrawn its forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, has kept eight villages of Azerbaijan under occupation, and continues its regular military and political provocations," the information stated.

According to the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, Louis Bono will be in the South Caucasus region on April 13-22. "Mr. Bono plans to meet with key stakeholders to support the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process," the US Embassy added. "This will be an opportunity for Mr. Bono to build on the meeting between Secretary of State Blinken, the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of Azerbaijan held on February 18 within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, the phone conversations the Secretary of State held with leaders in March and Mr. Bono's visit to the region last month. We are encouraged by its recent engagement efforts, and Mr. Bono hopes to build on this momentum. Mr. Bono emphasizes that the United States is committed to promoting a peaceful, democratic, and progressive future for the South Caucasus," the Embassy noted.

Conversation between Jeyhun Bayramov and US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs

On April 17, Jeyhun Bayramov spoke with Dereck Hogan, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.

During the telephone conversation, the current issues on the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United States and the current situation in the region, including the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan, were discussed. "Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the existence of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the USA in various fields and noted the importance of mutual contacts in the development of relations. In the post-conflict period, the current situation in the region brought to attention that the continuous military and political provocations committed by Armenia harmed the peace and construction efforts of Azerbaijan. In this regard, it was reported that Armenia has not yet withdrawn its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, that Azerbaijan is hindering the reintegration efforts of Armenian residents, and that it opposes the proposal to establish a border crossing point in order to prevent abuse of the Lachin road. "Despite the non-constructive steps taken by Armenia, it was stated that Azerbaijan is determined to continue efforts in the direction of advancing the peace agenda," the information stated.

Dereck Hogan said that for the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region, it is important for the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia to be successful and for the existing issues to be resolved through negotiations. He pointed out that the United States is ready to support the peace process.
