Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan Forge Strategic Green Energy Partnership for Regional Growth
On November 13, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev convened for a trilateral meeting, culminating in the signing of an “Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy.”
In his remarks, President Aliyev emphasized the historic significance of the agreement, noting that it not only strengthens the brotherly ties among the three nations but also paves the way for enhanced regional collaboration in renewable energy. He underscored the integration of Central Asia and the Caucasus in advancing green energy projects, highlighting Azerbaijan’s ongoing initiative to construct an energy cable across the Black Sea to Europe—creating a strategic link between Central Asia, the Caspian, and the Black Sea regions.
President Tokayev praised the strategic partnership as a step forward in promoting sustainable development and regional energy integration, calling it a "new chapter" in trilateral cooperation. He emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to carbon neutrality and its role as a key transit corridor for green energy exports. Tokayev expressed optimism that the agreement would bolster the Middle Corridor and facilitate technological exchanges, thereby enhancing energy security across the region.
President Mirziyoyev commended Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the United Nations Climate Summit and described the creation of a green energy corridor to Europe as a collective contribution to global climate efforts under the Paris Agreement. He highlighted Uzbekistan’s ambitious goal of increasing its renewable energy share to 40% by 2030. Mirziyoyev underscored the economic benefits of the project, including job creation, infrastructure development, and improved living standards, while calling for joint efforts to accelerate the project’s implementation.
In addition to the trilateral agreement, the event saw the signing of an “Implementation Program for Cooperation in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy” involving the energy ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia. Following the signing ceremony, Presidents Aliyev, Tokayev, Mirziyoyev, and Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, held further discussions on the next steps for advancing the project.
