Conversation between James Cleverly and Jeyhun Bayramov

On October 17, a telephone conversation took place between Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Union and Development of Great Britain, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

During the telephone conversation, the perspectives of the cooperation agenda between the two countries, the current regional situation, and the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.

"Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, giving detailed information about the current situation in the region, said that as a result of the local anti-terrorist measures carried out by us in the Karabakh region, the presence of illegal Armenian armed forces, which pose a constant threat to peace-building and stability in the region, has been ended. As a result of the disarmament of the illegal armed forces in our territories, the obstacles to the process of reintegration of Armenian residents into our society have been removed, in this regard, the Government of Azerbaijan is in contact with the representatives of local Armenian residents to meet the social, humanitarian, and infrastructure needs of Armenian residents, and our views and plans in this direction it was brought to attention that relevant measures are being implemented in the direction of the implementation of the mentioned plans," the report added.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also stated that after the end of the nearly 30-year-long conflict, as well as the elimination of the Armenian armed forces, which were a real threat to peace and security in the region, the historical opportunities for peace, the steps directed against territorial integrity and sovereignty, which undermined the peace efforts, did not contribute to the peace efforts, and in this regard, the international it was noted that the constructive approach of the public is more critical than ever.

Secretary of State James Cleverly emphasized the importance of continuing peace and confidence-building efforts in the region and, in this regard, continuing negotiations on the agenda of peace and normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Baku responds to Pashinyan's recent remarks

On the same day, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated that the statement made by Nikol Pashinyan during the session of the European Parliament once again demonstrated that this country is determined to further undermine the prospects for a peace agreement by continuing aggressive rhetoric and accusations against Azerbaijan.

"It is insulting to hear such claims from Armenia, which presents itself as a peaceful, democratic, international law-respecting country, while not giving up its claims against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. It also shows how inconsistent the statements of the Prime Minister of Armenia, who stated in his address to the Armenian public on September 21 that the Armenian residents of the Karabakh region do not face threats, are inconsistent with each other. At the same time, it is not surprising to hear such contradictory statements from the Prime Minister of the country in question, considering how famous Armenia is for blatantly falsifying history and facts," the report added.

"Considering that Armenia has committed aggression against Azerbaijan and occupied our territories for nearly 30 years, it is not serious that the Prime Minister of Armenia calls to measure respect for territorial integrity and delimitation by square kilometers. Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan has never claimed the territory of other countries," the information said.

"Accusing Azerbaijan and Turkey of blockade by Armenia has nothing to do with reality. It is well known that Armenia is isolated from regional projects due to military aggression and territorial claims. Moreover, it seems that Armenia does not intend to end this even after the liberation of its territories by Azerbaijan. The Armenian side is well aware of the obligation to organize the unhindered movement of citizens, vehicles, and cargo in both directions and, at the same time, to ensure safety in this direction. Armenia also must ensure the construction of new transport communications connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Unfortunately, this country misses such an opportunity again. The signing of the Agreement on the construction of roads and railways that will connect Azerbaijan with the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan over the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran once again shows that, unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan has always made a positive contribution to the development of transport corridors in the region by using alternative routes," the ministry noted.
