Azerbaijan Sends 40 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Karabakh Through Aghdam Road

On August 29, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society stated that 40 tons of humanitarian aid was sent to the Armenian residents of Karabakh on the Aghdam-Stepanakert/Khankendi route. In its statement, the society expressed its hope that the humanitarian aid will be delivered on time without any problems.

"The car convoy will move accompanied by the flags and emblems of the Red Crescent in accordance with the Azerbaijan Law 'On the Use and Protection of the Golden Cross and Red Crescent Emblems,'" the statement said.

According to the information, on August 21, by the decision of the Management Board, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, in accordance with the Law "On the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society," the Geneva Conventions, and the Seville Agreement, will provide humanitarian assistance to the Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Novruz Aslan, the President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, said the humanitarian aid convoy has 40 tons of flour products for the first stage. "The management staff of the Golden Crescent Society, including our volunteers, will move towards the Aghdam-Khankendi road," Aslan added.

Lusine Avanesyan, the de-facto Press Secretary of the separatist President of Nagorno-Karabakh, said, "If Azerbaijan is really interested in ending the humanitarian crisis and the genocide of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, then it should not simply prohibit the resumption of supplies through the Lachin corridor." According to Avanesyan, there is no agreement with the Karabakh side on delivering Azerbaijan's aid via the Aghdam-Stepanakert road.

On the evening of August 29, dozens of activists, presumably supporters of Ruben Vardanyan's movement, gathered on the Aghdam-Stepanakert road to block the passage of Azerbaijani humanitarian aid.

It should be recalled that Azerbaijan does not allow trucks with humanitarian aid from Armenia to pass through the Lachin corridor, insisting that the Aghdam route should be used.
