Azerbaijan Sends Humanitarian Aid Convoy to Syria

On 30 December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan announced that in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a humanitarian aid convoy has been dispatched to help solve the humanitarian problems of the Syrian people.

The convoy, consisting of 10 trucks carrying various food and non-food items from Baku, weighed about 200 tonnes.

The aid will be transported through the territories of Georgia and Türkiye and delivered to the "Çobanbey" checkpoint on the Turkish-Syrian border. From there it will be distributed in the city of Idlib, Syria, with the support of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan attended the departure ceremony of the aid convoy.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan has expressed support for the new authorities in Syria. 

At the end of December 2024, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev travelled to Syria, where he held a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government Asaad Hassan al-Shibani. At the meeting, he noted that Azerbaijan, together with Turkey, supports Syria at a new important stage. Rafiyev conveyed congratulations of the Azerbaijani leadership on the beginning of a new stage on the way to state stability and well-being of the population of Syria, as well as the coming to power of the representatives of the people.
