Azerbaijan Summons Russian Ambassador Over Zatulin's Statements
On February 6, Mikhail Yevdokimov, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), where a note of protest was presented.
During the meeting, a strong protest was expressed regarding a statement made on February 5 by Konstantin Zatulin—the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, and a member of the ruling United Russia Party—concerning the conviction of Armenian citizens in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani side condemned Zatulin’s long-standing statements against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, his open support for separatism, and his attempts to misrepresent court decisions related to Armenian citizens convicted of crimes against peace and humanity, as well as war crimes resulting from Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan. They further condemned his use of unacceptable expressions.
During the meeting, the Russian side was urged to take appropriate measures to prevent further destructive actions by individuals like Zatulin, whose activities were described as undermining regional peace and stability and threatening Azerbaijan–Russia relations.
