Azerbaijan-Turkey Talks in Baku Focus on Economic Ties, Regional Conflicts, and Infrastructure Cooperation
On January 18, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met in Baku to discuss a wide range of critical issues.
Bayramov highlighted the robust economic ties between the two nations, noting that Turkish companies have invested $16 billion in Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijani investments in Turkey total $20 billion. Over 4,000 Turkish companies currently operate in Azerbaijan, with efforts ongoing to expand Azerbaijani gas exports to Turkey and Europe.
The two ministers addressed pressing regional conflicts, including the Israel-Palestine situation. Azerbaijan reiterated its support for a two-state solution, while Bayramov emphasized the importance of Syria’s reintegration into the region and Azerbaijan’s commitment to regional stability, including humanitarian aid to Syria.
Fidan underscored the need for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and stressed Turkey’s dedication to promoting long-term stability in the Middle East.
Both ministers affirmed the strength of Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, particularly in energy and infrastructure projects. Key initiatives include the development of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway, which aims to enhance connectivity and regional trade.
Bayramov also highlighted the increasing influence of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), noting its focus on enhancing diplomatic capabilities. Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to advancing joint efforts with Azerbaijan in various fields, including defense and energy.
