Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Warns Russia to Use "Proper Toponyms"
On November 25, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that the list and map of residential areas of the Karabakh economic region of the Republic of Azerbaijan with names corresponding to Azerbaijani toponyms were officially sent by Azerbaijan to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the previous and current command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily stationed in the territory of Azerbaijan, as well as to the Turkey-Russia Joint Monitoring Center.
"Nevertheless, unfortunately, in the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation published on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the names of our settlements are mentioned with fictitious Armenian toponyms. Thus, in the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation dated November 24, 2022, it is reported that Azerbaijan allegedly violated the ceasefire in the direction of the 'Magavuz' settlement," the report added.
"We bring to the attention of the Russian side that the official name of the Azerbaijani settlement called 'Magavuz' is CHARDAGLI. The units of the Azerbaijani Army did not violate the ceasefire and did not fire any shots in this direction," the information stated. "At the same time, we also declare that the information provided to the Russian side about the recent violations of the ceasefire by illegal Armenian armed groups and other incidents is not reflected in the official statements of the Russian peacekeeping contingent," it emphasized.
According to the invitation of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily stationed in the territory of Azerbaijan and the leadership of the Turkey-Russia Joint Monitoring Center were buried by the illegal Armenian armed groups in the northern direction of Saribaba Height. The engineer-fortification units of the Azerbaijan Army discovered them. They inspected the anti-personnel mine site on November 23. "During the review, it was reported that 350 PMN-E brand anti-personnel mines produced in Armenia in 2021 alone were detected and neutralized by our units. Unfortunately, this was not officially reported by the Russian peacekeeping contingent. We call on the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily stationed in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan to express the names of settlements in the territory of our country with correct toponyms in their relevant information and to strictly prevent all provocative activities of illegal Armenian military units, including mining of territories," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry concluded.
