Azerbaijan's Gas Exports Hit 6.4 Billion Cubic Meters in First Quarter, Europe Takes Half
On April 8, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced that Azerbaijan had exported 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas during January-March 2024.
Shahbazov revealed that in the first quarter of the year, Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe reached 3.2 billion cubic meters, constituting 50% of all exports from the country. Gas supplies to Turkey amounted to 2.3 billion cubic meters, accounting for 35.9% of total exports, while exports to Georgia totaled 0.9 billion cubic meters, making up 14.1% of the total. During the reporting period, 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas was transported to Turkey via the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP). The minister did not provide comparative data on gas exports for January-March 2023.
Furthermore, Shahbazov stated that in the first three months of 2024, Azerbaijan produced 12.6 billion cubic meters of gas, marking an increase of 400 million cubic meters compared to the same period in 2023. Gas production growth amounted to 3.3% year-on-year.
According to the Energy Ministry, 6.9 billion cubic meters of gas were produced from the Shah Deniz field during the reporting period, representing a 3% increase. Additionally, 0.4 billion cubic meters were produced from the Absheron field, and 3.3 billion cubic meters of associated gas were produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block, maintaining the production level from the first quarter of 2023.
Since the start of development, 219.6 billion cubic meters of associated gas have been produced from the ACG block, and as of April 1, 2024, 216 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been produced from the Shah Deniz field. During the period, 153.4 billion cubic meters of gas produced at Shah Deniz were exported to world markets.
In 2023, gas production in Azerbaijan amounted to 48 billion 496.7 million cubic meters, with a growth rate of 3.8%. Marketable gas production reached 36 billion 413.8 million cubic meters, reflecting a 4.2% increase.
The government forecasts gas production in the country for 2024 at 49 billion 63.6 million cubic meters, including 36 billion 779.6 million cubic meters of marketable gas.
