Car of Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington Attacked
On October 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that on the night of October 10–11, shots were fired at the service car of the Azerbaijani embassy in Washington, DC.
The relevant US authorities were immediately informed about the incident, and the camera images were presented to the other party.
The ministry notes that the US chargé d'affaires in Azerbaijan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 12. "We have expressed our serious concern and dissatisfaction with the incident," the report said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that recent attacks against Azerbaijani diplomatic missions in foreign countries are systematic. "We note with regret that neither the attacks that took place in recent days nor the criminal cases opened in 2020 in European capitals, as well as in the city of Los Angeles against Azerbaijani diplomatic missions, have been brought to justice," it added. "The protection of embassies is an international obligation of states. It seems that they are not well protected. In America, England, and France. This is a violation of the Vienna Convention," the ministry said.
Earlier, on October 3, Caucasus Watch reported that Zacharie Gross, the French Ambassador to Azerbaijan, was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two days earlier, on October 1, a note of protest was presented regarding the act of vandalism committed against the Azerbaijani Embassy in France.
On August 4, Caucasus Watch reported that a group of religious radicals attacked the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom. Upon entering the embassy building, the members of the vandal group raised religious flags and shouted radical religious slogans on the balcony of the building. After the intervention of the local police, the group members were taken out of the building and detained. Embassy employees were not injured as a result of the incident. Local law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident.
